ARCHERY RANGE RULES
September 9, 2010
NO BROADHEADS, NO CROSSBOWS
FIELD POINTS/TARGET POINTS ONLY
Prior to shooting on the MCWCC Archery Range, all persons will complete a range orientation and safety briefing. To schedule the briefing, contact Joe Clendenin at 910-692-2538.
This archery range has four (4) lanes designated by the two rows of landscape timbers. Each lane is four (4) feet wide or one-half (1/2) of a landscape timber.
A maximum of four (4) archers may shoot at the same time.
When more than one (1) archer is shooting, they shall designate a range officer to coordinate the actions of all the shooters and shall designate a single shooting line/distance.
Landscape timbers mark shooting distances of 10, 20, and 30 yards.
ALL ARCHERS WILL SHOOT FROM THE SAME DISTANCE LINE. NEITHER THE TARGETS NOR THE SHOOTERS WILL BE STAGGERED.
Different targets may be placed in each lane; however, all targets will be placed between the zero (0) distance line and the front of the back stop.
Prior to shooting, inspect your bow, arrows, and other equipment. Never shoot with damaged or defective equipment.
Keep the bow pointed in a safe direction, ie. down range at the targets.
Do not nock an arrow until you are on the firing line ready to shoot.
Keep your finger off of the arrow release until you are ready to shoot.
All shooters shall remain at the firing line until all arrows have been loosed and the range is declared “All Clear.”
Be sure of your target, what’s in front of it, and what’s behind it.
Never shoot an arrow up into the air, off into the distance, or anywhere you cannot see where it will land.
Never leave bows, arrows, and equipment lying on the ground. When not in use, bows should be placed upon a bow rack or bow hanger.
Bows are to be placed upon a bow rack or bow hanger before going down range to retrieve arrows from the targets.
When looking for lost arrows, always leave your bow or another shooter at the firing line. Targets should be turned down or turned away from the firing line to indicate that an archer is behind the back stop.
A youth under the age of 16, accompanied by an adult who has completed the MCWCC range orientation and the archery safety briefing, may shoot on the archery range under the supervision of that adult.
A youth older than the age of 16 may shoot on the archery range unsupervised by an adult provided that the youth has completed the MCWCC range orientation and safety briefing, has completed the North Carolina Wildlife Commission Hunter Education Safety Course Requirements, and has demonstrated proficiency with a bow and arrow.
ANYONE OBSERVING AN UNSAFE ACT SHALL CALL: “CEASE FIRE.”
No running or “horseplay” on the range.
When finished shooting, do not leave any trash on the range, cover any targets left on the range (no more than one (1) target per lane), and return all other targets and equipment to storage.
Anyone failing to follow these rules will be removed from the range and may have his or her range privileges terminated.
